Gold - We are in touch with Safe Standing manufacturers

EXCLUSIVE

By Hugh Southon

David Gold has started talks with manufacturers of safe seating systems which he wants to see introduced at the London Stadium.

In a major exclusive with ClaretandHugh this morning the co-chairman revealed: “I have been speaking with the people who put in the rail seating at Celtic Park. I have been an advocate of this for many years and it is something I am working on.

“It was absolutely right after the Hillsborough tragedy that the Taylor Report suggested all-seater stadiums but that was 30 years ago and technology has moved on so now – as was the case at Celtic – we need to look at these possibilities and hold talks. That’s what I am doing.”

Once a system is found to suit the London Stadium it can be assumed the club will have been in touch with every relevant body including the stadium operators, FA and PL and it could be that Celtic’s Ferco Seating system will be the one adopted.

Gold’s talks are the starting point in moves he hopes will calm the voice of discontened supporters who have contributed towards making this a burning issue following the move from the Boleyn.

He said: “We are working on it. I believe in it – we are in touch and we will do everything we can to resolve the issue.”

DG and his daughter Jacqui have both tweeted regularly that fans need to sit at the stadium in order to get the licence to increase the stadium capacity to 66k.

And DG said: “I’ve ben accused of making this about money which is crazy because I won’t profit personally – only the football club.

“For me it’s about pride. For as long as I can remember we have been London’s fourth club now we have a chance to become the biggest in terms of capacity.

“Arsenal have 60k, Chelsea and Tottenham will have 61k and we will have 66k. I want that. I want to be the biggest and I think the majority of our fans will too.”

In the video above the Ferco Seating system is featured in a BBC programme at the time of the Celtic moves towards safe seating in which DG’s support for safe seating is mentioned.

Should be sorting out the other priority issues in the stadium first.

Family section HAS to be an option next season.

If ever there was an opportunity to implement this, surely it was the move to a brand new, purpose customised stadium?

would it not need to be fully approved by all the athletics bods as well I assume, based on the fact we only rent it?

Re: Gold - We are in touch with Safe Standing manufacturers
I guess it would only be for lower tier, therefore retractable? So athletics wouldn't use it.

A step in the right direction though.

The safe standing is only rail seats bolted onto the terraces, I can't imagine in could cost too much to swap over from normal seats to that and back

Hopefully this isn't just giving us lip service and they do actually want this.

Not sure how this system makes it so much safer though, you get a bar in front of you to lean on. I'm pretty sure we have been fine to just stand up without the need for this.

The way the council (if it is them) have acted regarding standing since the move I'm sure they wouldn't agree to this anyway.

I'm delighted he's addressing this. He has to see it through, though. Walk the walk, not just talk the talk, so we can choose to sit the sit or stand the stand.

I reckon the council are just being cautious so they don't get done for any disater due to people standing in a stadium only licenced for sitting. If they get the green light from the relevant health and safety, they shouldn't have a problem with standing; just as long as their asreholes are covered.

Hopefully they'll get a move on Lily as I'm not planning on sitting in the BML this Saturday.

Stand (in) your ground, and fight the powers that be. The more standing, the quicker the issue will be forced......that, or they'll have to ban thousands.

This definitely isnt made up to make sure we all then sit down so they can take it to 60k and get more money out of us, then do fuck all to take it forward....

Why would we want safe standing? I thought standing didn't mean a better atmos?

"For me it’s about pride"

Pushing the 66k still when we get Y1ds, Arsenal, Manc shirts in for games with 57k.

We've had a smaller ground than that lot for most of our history....why would we care now who has the biggest capacity? Who, over the age of eight, gives a shit?

Parliament would have to approve such a change wouldn't it? Not just us or even the Premier League?

Re: Gold - We are in touch with Safe Standing manufacturers
Shame we couldn't sort this out before

We should have had a family section. Ideally a safe standing section and I know people hate it but a section for fans who want to sing and be with others who want to sing.

I've sat next to two birds in the new ground in 3 games, 1 filmed everything for snapchat, the other started going on about having a yoghurt when she got home.

I had two kids on the floor playing at the Bournemouth game too.

It was fencing that caused the Hillsboro tragedy anyway not people standing.

Will be fucking great to have the biggest ground in London and 2nd biggest in the UK.
